Panthers Bring Goalie Tim Thomas In For Tryout
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The last time Tim Thomas was making news for an National Hockey League team, he was helping lead the Boston Bruins to the Stanley Cup. Now, Thomas is in Sunrise on a tryout deal with the Florida Panthers.
General manager Dale Tallon offered Thomas a tryout last week and it was accepted Monday the team announced. Thomas is likely to make the team as Florida needs quality goalies to add to youngster Jacob Markstrom.
Over eight NHL seasons, Thomas stopped over 92 percent of the shots he faced and had a goals-against average of 2.48.
Thomas surprised most hockey fans and executives by sitting out the 2012 season after winning the Stanley Cup in 2011. If he is still close to his old self, he represents a big upgrade to the team's depth at goalie.
