Panthers Blown Out By Capitals, 7-1
WASHINGTON (CBSMiami) – If you can stop a hockey puck, the Florida Panthers desperately need to talk to you. The Panthers went to Washington hoping to right the ship, but instead were blown off the ice by the Washington Capitals, 7-1.
The Panthers weren't competitive with the Capitals from the minute the puck hit the ice for the first faceoff. Florida gave up four goals to Washington in the first period to four different players.
Washington's scoring barrage continued in the second period with Alex Ovechkin putting the biscuit in the basket for a power-play goal. The Capitals continued to pour it on in the third period with another two goals while finally surrendering one goal to Florida with less than 10 minutes to go in the game.
The Capitals final goal against Florida came with less than one minute to go in the game that looked more like a scrimmage than a competitive game.
Washington scored the seven goals while getting just 25 shots on goal in the game, including just four in the second period.
The loss leaves Florida all alone at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 19 points on the season and a 7-11-5 overall record. Florida is 3-5-2 through its last 10 games and is almost certainly out of the playoff hunt barring a minor miracle from the team.
