Panhandle Animal Sanctuary Hosts Unusual Baby Shower

PENSACOLA (CBS4/AP) — Visitors to the Wildlife Sanctuary of Northwest Florida were the esteemed guests to a very unique baby shower.

The Pensacola News Journal reports about 700 visitors brought trash bags, paper towels and food donations to help care for the sanctuary's baby animals during an event this weekend.

Sanctuary staff said plentiful donations can carry them over until August.

Spring is the busiest time of year for the nonprofit because staff members must work around the clock to care for fragile baby birds, ducklings and other animals.

The sanctuary provides a safe haven for injured wildlife with the goal of rehabilitating the animals and releasing them back into the wild. The sanctuary also provides permanent homes for those that can't return to the wild.
