Palm Beach Deputy Shot Suspected Home Invasion Robber
ROYAL PALM BEACH (CBSMiami/AP) – A Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy was forced to fire when a home invasion suspect tried to run him over with a car.
Just after 10 p.m., the sheriff's office received a call about a robbery in progress at 135 Finch Court in Royal Palm Beach. According to the caller, the three armed and masked robbers forced their way into the home and claimed to be police officers. While the gunman corralled the couple inside, their daughter was able to escape through a bedroom window and call 911.
Arriving deputies said they heard the gunmen giving commands to the residents and waited for them to leave. As the gunmen left house, they were surprised by deputies waiting outside for them and tried to run back to the house.
The sheriff's office said deputies went after the suspects and confronted one of them, 24-year old Jamar Anderson, who made it back to a car. Anderson initially cooperated with the deputies, then reportedly drove towards them.
One of the deputies then fired a single shot and struck Anderson in the neck; he died at the scene.
A second 'person of interest' was taken into custody, but later released.
The sheriff's office said at least three weapons were recovered along with several items of police gear.
