Cat. 3 Ophelia Gains Strength In Open Atlantic
MIAMI (CBS4) -- Hurricane Ophelia, now the third major hurricane of the 2011 season, continues its trek with winds that reach 120 miles per hour.
At 11:00 p.m. the center of the system was about 435 miles south-southeast of Bermuda and moving north near 14 mph.
Ophelia has begun a gradual turn to the north. On this track, Ophelia is expected to pass east of Bermuda on Saturday.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Bermuda.
Ophelia has already caused flooding and cut off communities on Dominica.
About 1,600 people were stranded on the island and nearly a dozen cars have washed away.
Ophelia is the fourth hurricane of the season.
