Operation Bad Santa Sweeps Through Broward County
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Some of Broward County residents on the real naughty list received quite the holiday surprise during BSO's Operation Bad Santa.
Broward Sheriff's Office sent out dozens of teams of law enforcement to visit homes throughout the county with a message for wanted felons.
BSO deputies, along with officers from Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise, Plantation, Hallandale, Margate, Coral Springs and Coconut Creek police departments and agents from DEA, FBI,State Probation and Parole and the U.S. Marshals Service, all participated in Operation Bad Santa which ended in more than 50 suspects arrested.
The teams were divided into groups of three. Together, they combed through the streets of Broward County with a goal of attempting to serving 250 active warrants, ranging from violent felonies to misdemeanor violations, juvenile pick-up orders and writs of bodily attachment for unpaid child support.
"We have thousands of active warrants in our county, and it is my responsibility to be diligent in serving and apprehending these suspects," Sheriff Scott Israel said.
Operation Bad Santa is part of BSO's holiday enforcement, which began just before Thanksgiving with Operation Full Blitz, and will carry into the new year.
"I'm proud of our results and steadfast in our message," said Israel. "With the holidays right around the corner, criminals need to know that while they're out looking for their next victim, we're out looking for them."
