Elderly Woman Dies After Being Stabbed In Domestic Dispute In SW Miami-Dade

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – A domestic dispute in Southwest Miami-Dade turned deadly when an elderly woman died at the hospital after being stabbed.
Miami-Dade paid the woman, 70-year-old Maritza Ospina, and the man who reportedly attacked her, 76-year-old Jorge Gonzalez, had previously lived together as boyfriend and girlfriend.
About four months ago, Ospina moved out to live with her granddaughter.
Friday morning, Gonzalez went to where Ospina was living in the 15-thousand block of SW 8th Way.
Gonzalez reportedly forced his way inside, armed himself with a knife, and stabbed Ospina multiple times.
The granddaughter heard what was going on and intervened.
Some men who were working on the property also tried to break up the fight.
"The granddaughter of the lady involved in the incident, she was screaming and asking for help so I went in there and saw the guy standing over the lady with a knife. We started yelling at him to put the knife down and calm down and he wouldn't comply at first," said a man who only wanted to be identified as Randolf, who tried to stop the attack.
Randolf and his two co-workers got Gonzalez to put his knife down.
"Then he picked it back up again and tried to proceed towards the lady," Randolph added.
It became more violent.
"Again he tried to go towards the neck area. We tried to get him to stop, so we started throwing things at him to get him away from the lady. He got away and we got him to put his knife down again," said Randolph.
Coworkers Kemari Merritt and Gabriel Samy tried to subdue Gonzalez.
"When we tried to stop, he put his hands out like OK and I said you are killing her," said Samy.
"We were all trying to grab the knife out of his hands after he stabbed himself. He was stabbing himself and we tried to grab him and he wouldn't let us. He ended up dropping the knife because we were all over him."
They restrained Gonzalez until police arrived.
"The guy didn't care. He didn't look like he cared. I have never seen anything like it for someone that age," Merritt said.
"He is sick in the head. He was always sending her messages, where are you? They ended (their relationship) because of all the obsessive stuff. You can't do this, like he was an aggressive guy," Robert Navarro said, his mother knew the victim.
Gonzalez was taken into custody when the police arrived. Charges are pending.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported the woman to Kendall Regional Hospital's Trauma Center where she died.
