CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami) -- Coral Gables police Friday nabbed a man they say attacked two of their officers in the morning.
It began at an office building on Biltmore Way where police were called about an aggravated stalker, and ex-boyfriend.
"The subject showed up, carrying flowers, a violation we believe of an outstanding domestic violence order," said Gables Police Chief Ed Hudak. "At that time he got into an assault with our officers."
Cops came out in force with assault rifles and search dogs after they say the man slammed a male officer to the floor, and assaulted a female officer before taking off on foot. Police cars raced through the streets of the Gables - sirens wailing as the hunt was on.
"The two officers that were there, one was a long-time veteran, the other was relatively new to the force," Hudak said.
The long-time veteran happened to be Gables Police public information officer Kelly Denham, often on the news but rarely making news, except today, and earlier this month when she was named officer of the year for 2016.
"She was actually on the road today. She was training one of the officers, observing one of the newer officers who has probably been on less than six months," Hudak said. "I couldn't be prouder of either of them."
Both of the officers who were assaulted shook off their bumps and bruises and stayed with the case until the capture of the suspect, whose identity had not been released as of late Friday afternoon.
Hudak said he will likely face aggravated stalking charges and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer.
