Two People Dead After Shooting At Liberty City Playground

NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBS4) - A man who police believe is armed with an assault rifle is on the loose  after murdering two people at the Lincoln Fields Apartment Complex in Northwest Miami-Dade around 7:30PM Wednesday night.

One man was found shot to death on a playground at the complex, the other man was found shot, but alive a few yards away near a stairwell. He died shortly after at Ryder Trauma Center.

A large group of neighbors, and people who say they are family members of the victims showed up to the scene.

One woman became hysterical trying to get information from police about what happened, and trying to cross the crime scene tape to see her loved one. Police say they understand the family members' grief but they needed everyone to stay on the other side of the police line.

"There is nothing more important to us than preserving this crime scene, by allowing anyone in the crime scene we could possibly taint this scene so once we do have someone in custody, when we do go through the judicial process, the last thing we need is someone to come back and say we tainted the scene by allowing people in here who do not belong in here," Miami-Dade Police Spokersperson Roy Rutland told CBS4's Natalia Zea.

Police hope that those upset by this crime will come forward and serve as witnesses to catch the shooter and put him behind bars.

"We have somebody upset and saying all different kinds of things and making allegations. Great- bring us information because we can't solve these cases often without that information," said Rutland.

At this point police are not releasing a detailed description of the shooter, or the victims.
