One Dead In Hallandale Beach Shooting
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) – Hallandale Beach Police were investigating a deadly shooting Saturday at 700 SW 8th Avenue.
According to relatives and investigators, the victim is 20-year-old Lazaro Cuesta.
"He always was smiling. Always smiling. When he see me he always come hug and kiss grandma," Cuesta's grandmother Lemoris Carroll said. "He's gone. He's gone. I don't know for what reason. I don't know."
Homicide detectives believe they know what caused the violence.
"The motive appears to be a robbery," Capt. Thomas Honan said. "There was gunfire that was fired by the suspects that left the scene in a vehicle."
Police do not have a description of the vehicle at this time, but they said they are looking for 2 black males with dreadlocks.
After hours of processing the scene, police said it did not appear anything was taken from the home.
There were 5 people inside the home at the time, Capt. Honan said.
One of them was punched in the face, according to authorities.
Hours after the shooting, friends and family members gathered at the scene, many in tears. Some were leaning on one another for strength.
Friends said Cuesta was a drummer in the marching band in high school who had everything going for him. He graduated two years ago.
"He was always a good guy. They could have been jealous that people liked him because of his personality," Sonia Mendoza said. "He was always smiling. He was so young. He had so much to live for.
As they waited for answers from police, Cuesta's loved ones had a message for the people responsible.
"Turn himself in. I hope justice (is) done," Cuesta's uncle Johnie Jones said.
I'm not satisfied with what they're saying," Carroll said "I just want closure to it, to really find out what happened."
