Olympic Bronze Medalist Danell Leyva Gets Hero's Welcome At MIA
MIAMI (CBS4) - Olympic bronze medalist Danell Leyva arrived from London just before 10 o'clock Wednesday night to a throng of supporters at Miami International Airport.
The Miami native cleared customs and arrived in the baggage claim to more than 50 fans.
Many in the crowd were from his gym, Universal Gymnastics in South Miami-Dade. This is the first time in 19 years the gym has sent someone to the Olympics.
Leyva won the bronze in the gymnastics all around almost a week ago at the London games. Since his win, officials at the gym say phones have been ringing off the hook.
They call it Olympic fever, with every caller inquiring to enroll and be just like Leyva.
The young Olympic medalist told CBS4's David Sutta that he is glad to be home, and a bit overwhelmed.
"Your dream is to get the medal. You think about what it is to finish the job well. You don't think about all this. It's really overwhelming," said Leyva.
He also said he isn't done with competing just yet.
"Nah. Two more for sure," said Leyva.
