Police Investigating Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting In Liberty City

Miami (CBSMiami) – Police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting in Liberty City Wednesday night.
The shooting happened at around 9 p.m. at NW 15th Avenue and 66th Street.
CBS4's Hank Tester was told it all began with a routine traffic stop and two people in the car had active warrants.
"One of them flees. They were able to apprehend the second one. They immediately established a perimeter," explained Miami-Dade Police Department spokesperson Alvaro Zabaleta. "And as the detectives were searching the area within the perimeter, makes contact with the subject, the confrontation occurred and shots were fired."
It's unknown where the person was shot but he was transported to the hospital where he died.
Authorities have not said what happened that caused the officer to shoot.
Police continue to question a number of witnesses.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has joined in on this investigation, as is protocol with all officer-involved shootings.
In an unrelated shooting earlier in the evening, two men were struck in the 1200 block of NW 51st Terrace. One man was hit in the face and the other in the thigh.
Both were alert and taken to the Ryder Trauma Center in stable condition.
Police said the motive remains unclear.
