Obama Nominates Cuban-Born Judge To Fed Appeals Court
MIAMI (CBS4) -- President Barack Obama has nominated a Cuban-born judge to the federal appeals court in Atlanta.
In making the nomination Tuesday, Obama said Adalberto Jose Jordan will bring "an unwavering commitment to fairness" to the court.
Jordan must be confirmed by the U.S. Senate before joining the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. He would replace Judge Susan Black, who has taken senior status.
FIU congratulated Jordan on his nomination.
"Judge Jordán is among our best adjunct faculty. Our students consistently praise him for his teaching, and as important, his mentoring of our future lawyers. We at FIU College of Law are proud to call him a colleague," said Dean R. Alexander Acosta.
Jordan immigrated to the United States with his parents at age 6. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Miami School of Law in 1987, where he is now an adjunct professor of law. He also teaches at Florida International University College of Law.
He was nominated to the federal bench by President Bill Clinton in 1999 and has presided over nearly 200 trials.
