Obama & Romney Suspend Campaign Events
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – President Barack Obama and Republican nominee Mitt Romney have suspended their campaign events due to Hurricane Sandy's approach to the northeast U.S. coast.
President Obama left Florida Monday morning and is at the White House leading the effort to make sure those in the path of the storm will get what they need before and after the storm.
Obama skipped a planned rally in Orlando that was to feature him and former President Bill Clinton. President Clinton will hold the rally without Obama in Orlando. Obama also pulled out of a scheduled event in Youngstown, Ohio ahead of Sandy.
Vice President Joe Biden and Clinton will hold an Obama campaign event in Ohio Monday afternoon.
President Obama also canceled a planned campaign trip to Green Bay, Wisconsin on Tuesday due to the storm.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has also canceled events in Wisconsin and Florida scheduled for the next 48 hours.
"Governor Romney believes this is a time for the nation and its leaders to come together to focus on those Americans who are in harms way," the Romney campaign said in a release.
Romney is still scheduled to come to South Florida on Thursday when he makes a campaign stop at the University of Miami.
