Nurse Tech Arrested Again After Sex With Kendall Regional Patient
MIAMI (CBSMiami) — A nurse technician was arrested Monday and charged in the sexual assault of a 43-year-old patient.
CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald reports Luis Alfonso Lucero, 37, of Hialeah, was accused of assaulting the woman, who was under his care at Kendall Regional Medical Center.
This was not Lucero's first arrest on such charges. On Aug. 28, he was arrested on one count of sexual battery in an incident Aug. 2 that involved a different patient. The alleged victim, a 45-year-old woman, had been admitted to the hospital for alcohol intoxication, according to an arrest affidavit. When police questioned him later, he said he had engaged in consensual sex with her.
Lucero was free on bond when he was arrested on Monday.
A statement from Kendall Regional said Lucero was fired immediately following his first arrest in August. It was not clear when the second incident took place.
"We conduct thorough background checks on all employees," the statement said. "Our paramount goal is to ensure protection of our patients and we absolutely will not tolerate inappropriate action."
Police asked anyone who has had contact with Lucero to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 or the Miami-Dade Police Department, Special Victims Bureau/Sexual Crimes at 305-715-3300.
