NTSB May Release Report On Deadly Dania Plane Crash By End Of Week

DANIA BEACH (CBSMiami) -- Investigators are trying to find out what caused a plane to crash into the ocean off Dania Beach, killing two people on board over the weekend.
Investigators with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) - heading the investigation - are looking at the wreckage that was taken to a hangar in Ft. Pierce. They plan to be there through Tuesday.
The four-seat Cessna plane plunged into 40 feet of water just 200 yards off the shore. It had been flying South along Broward County's coastline around 9:30 a.m. when the pilot checked in with air traffic control at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
The tower warned the pilot there was bad weather and advised them to take a route another three miles off shore to avoid it. That was the last interaction they had with the pilot.
Search crews were sent out and spotted what looked like an oil slick then a small debris field they later confirmed was the wreckage.
The two people pulled from the wreck have yet to be identified by authorities. They confirm the people on board were heading to Ocean Reef's airstrip in Key Largo from Pompano Beach.
Investigators are expected to release a preliminary report on the crash by the end of the week.
