MDSO identifies man, woman involved in northeast Miami-Dade murder-suicide

The victim and suspect involved in a murder-suicide in northeast Miami-Dade have been identified as the sheriff's office continues its investigation into what took place before the shooting.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a 55+ community in the 17000 block of Northeast 14th Avenue, which is just blocks from North Miami Beach High School, to investigate reports of gunshots being heard.

When deputies arrived, they said they found two people with gunshot wounds who were pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said Denis Del Carmen Polo Fuentes, 57, went to the apartment to pick up personal belongings from the apartment where the suspect lives.

That suspect, who has been identified as 64-year-old Frank Paba, let her inside the home, at which point he grabbed a gun and shot the victim.

He then turned the gun on himself.

Family members told CBS News Miami that the two were like any other couple. Sure, they fought. But they never expected a situation like this to take place.

Paba's brother-in-law told CBS News Miami that the couple broke up two months ago.

"The situation was very bad," he said.

One neighbor who said she knew the victim and suspect well told CBS News Miami that it was the victim who recently told the suspect she wanted to end things with him.

Residents said this is a quiet community.

"It's never happened," he said. "People die. But they're old. Old people. They die naturally. I never heard something like that before I've been here 10 years."

MDSO said they're still investigating the incident and are checking to see if there is surveillance video from the area.
