North Miami Police Chief Resigns
Miami (CBSMiami) --North Miami Police Chief Marc Elias has resigned, according to a city spokeswoman.
Spokeswoman Pam Solomon, said in a release on Tuesday, Elias and North Miami City Manager, Stephen Johnson, "agreed to an amicable conclusion to his service at the North Miami Police Department by way of his resignation."
Solomon did not give a reason for his departure.
The city has yet to name an interim police chief.
"The City Manager will work with the Police Department on the transition in the interim until a permanent assignment is made to the position, " said Solomon in the release.
Elias has worked with the city since 2010 when he was hired as Assistant Chief prior to being named Chief the following year.
According to our news partners the Miami Herald, Elias was criticized for charging the city a total of $14, 000 for seven trips he took to Haiti since April 2012.
The city used money from its Law Enforcement Trust Fund in order to pay for the trips. The fund is made up of money seized from criminals and used to fund training, equipment or crime prevention.
Back in November, Elias repaid the city $3,000 for a trip he took in August.
Johnson told the paper, only one of the seven trips did not have the necessary documentation to warrant reimbursement by the city.
