US Officials Believe North Korea Has Developed Nuclear Weapon

MIAMI (CBSMiami) --North Korea appears to have made strides towards its goal to build a nuclear weapon that could strike the U.S.
As tensions with North Korea continue to rise, President Donald Trump has a warning.
"North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met by fire and fury," said the president on Tuesday.
The president spoke shortly after CBS News confirmed that a new intelligence assessment has concluded that North Korea can now build a nuclear warhead small enough to fit on top of a missile and U.S. intelligence estimates North Korea has enough nuclear material to build dozens of nuclear weapons.
The news comes as more Americans say they're worried about the ongoing standoff with the communist country.
About 72 percent told CBS News they are "uneasy" about a possible conflict with North Korea.
The Trump administration is hopeful that new U.N. economic sanctions will help resolve the situation.
"We have to enforce these for these to be legitimate. We have to hold these countries accountable," said U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley.
Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is in Asia this week. He's urging other nations to help enforce those sanctions. The U.N. ambassador says they are the most severe ever imposed on Pyongyang.
President Trump praised the sanctions on Twitter Tuesday morning saying, "after many years of failure, countries are coming together to finally address the dangers posed by North Korea. We must be tough and decisive!"
But he has more work to do to convince the American people.
About 35 percent of those surveyed by CBS News say they are confident in the president's ability to handle the North Korean situation.
President Trump received much higher marks for his handling of the economy with 46 percent saying he's doing a good job. Overall - 69 percent of those surveyed say they feel good about the economy. That's the highest number for that metric in 15 years.
