NOAA: 70% Chance Of Below Normal Hurricane Season

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Just days away from the start of the 2015 hurricane season, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released their predictions.
On Wednesday, NOAA said that based on current and expected conditions, combined with model forecasts, they estimate a 70-percent probability for each of the following ranges of activity during the upcoming season, which starts June 1.

NOAA also predicts:
- 6-11 Named Storms, which includes TS Ana that formed in May
- 3-6 Hurricanes
- 0-2 Major Hurricanes
- Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) range of 40%-85% of the median

NOAA expects the seasonal activity will fall within these ranges in 70-precent of seasons with similar climate conditions and uncertainties to those expected this year.
These ranges, NOAA said, do not represent the total possible ranges of activity seen in past similar years.

These expected ranges are centered below the official NHC 1981-2010 seasonal averages of 12 named storms, 6 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.
