Swimmers Told To Stay Out Of Water In 3 Dade Beach Areas
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Swimming advisories have been posted for three beach areas in Miami-Dade County after test results showed bacteria levels were above acceptable levels.
The advisories are posted for Crandon Park South, Sunny Isles Park (174th Street & Collins Avenue) and North Shore Park (74th Street & Collins Avenue).
The county's health department said additional beach water samples have been taken from the affected areas and they're awaiting test results.
The water samples are being analyzed for enteric bacteria (enterococci) that normally inhabit the intestinal track of humans and animals, and which may cause human disease, infections, or illness. The prevalence of enteric bacteria is an indicator of fecal pollution, which may come from storm water run-off, wildlife, pets and human sewage.
Those who choose to go swimming at the beach areas where the advisories are posted face an increased risk of illness, particularly for susceptible individuals.
