No Arrests As Memorial Grows For 10-Year Old Killed
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Police are still looking for the killers of a 10-year-old boy.
The Miami-Dade Police Department's Homicide Bureau is investigating an armed robbery where two suspects entered a nail salon, at 14832 N.W. 7th Avenue, and fired shots—killing 10-year-old Aaron Vu. His father Hai Vu, 42, was also struck.
Both victims were taken to Ryder Trauma Center. Aaron Vu was pronounced dead at the hospital.
"He was basically the class clown. He would make the class laugh, the teacher laugh," said Paul Namphy, 10, a classmate and friend of Aaron Vu. "I was really good friends with him and I just really miss him," he added.
Sandy Pierre's son was a friend of Aaron. They stopped by the memorial Sunday.
"He's been devastated, been crying nonstop. We just saw Aaron on Friday he waved bye every morning or every afternoon," said Pierre.
In the family's Miramar neighborhood, friends feel they've lost a loved one. "It's tough. It's really, really tough," said James McQueen.
Salon customers were shocked. Jeannie Joseph questioned, "Why? If you're going to take the money just take it. Why shoot him? He doesn't deserve it. They don't deserve it. They're so nice."
Nail salon customers considered the Vu family friends. Some stopped by frequently just to talk.
Police passed out fliers to nearby businesses and released surveillance video. They're looking for any information that will help them catch the killers.
Lt. Jim Tietz with Miami-Dade Police said, "I hope the people in the community are as outraged as we are. These people need to be caught. They need to be taken off the street if they've done it once they'll do it again and anybody could be a victim."
MDPD said one suspect was wearing a black jacket, shorts with a red shirt over his face. The other suspect police say was wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.
