CORAL GABLES (CBSMiami/AP) — The University of Miami women's basketball team got its season off to a great start before entering conference play on Wednesday night.
Laura Cornelius made all six of her 3-point attempts in scoring a career-high 20 points to lead No. 22 Miami to a 73-44 victory over North Carolina State in the ACC opener for both teams.
Cornelius, a freshman from the Netherlands, took only seven shots in surpassing her previous best of 12 points. Jessica Thomas added 14 points and Michelle Woods 11 for the Hurricanes (13-1).
Dominique Wilson and Miah Spencer scored 11 points each for the Wolfpack (9-5), who shot just 25 percent with half of its 14 field goals coming from 3-point range. They were only 9 of 22 from the free-throw line.
Cornelius hit consecutive 3-pointers to give Miami a 13-point lead, 23-10, early in the second quarter and the lead would stay in double figures.
The Hurricanes have won nine of the last 11 meetings between the two schools and trail 10-9 in the all-time series.
