Man Killed In NMB Police Standoff, 2nd Man Dead In Home
NORTH MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) – A police involved shooting in North Miami Beach has left one man dead while the body of a second person was found inside his home.
According to police Troy Longhurst went to visit his friend Jonathan Woolfson in his Lakeview Townhome on 164th Street and Northeast 27th Avenue because Woolfson had been distraught and was going through a difficult time.
At 9:15 p.m., neighbors called 911 after they heard gunshots in Woolfson's townhome.
When officers arrived, Woolfson refused to come out of his home.
"Jonathon refused to peacefully come out numerous times for our officers, at times he was shouting things that didn't seem to make any sense to the officers," said North Miami Beach Police Major Kathy Katerman.
A Special Response Team entered Woolfson's home and used tactics that forced him out of the bathroom where he was hiding. He was shot and killed by North Miami Beach police.
"I didn't see anybody get shot but I heard somebody get shot a lot, at least a few times," explained neighbor Dan Taft. "It's upsetting that it happened so close to where I live."
Inside Woolfson's home, police found the body of Troy Longhurst who was dead from gunshot wounds.
"In helping him, in staying with him, in talking to him, he ended up losing his own life, that's what's tragic here," said Major Katerman.
Neighbors said Woolfson has lived in the neighborhood for about 5 years.
No officers were hurt in the shooting.
