Nightmares Come Alive At Lauderdale's Village Of Horrors
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Screams, dreams and nightmares.
Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night through the end of the month ghouls, ghosts and insane zombies roam the Village of Horrors on the grounds of Ft. Lauderdale's War Memorial Auditorium.
The Village of Horrors features haunted houses, a panic zone experience and a midway with thrill rides, games and special attractions. As with every good 'haunted house' event, it even has an immersive back story to lure you in.
"The story of Cross Town runs deep in history rich with tales of murder, greed and debauchery. Once a bustling town, the thirst and hunger for power, lust and money drove this quaint town of South Florida into a now deserted and barren village," according to the event's website, "A village cursed by murderers, thieves, demons and the paranormal – A Village of Horrors."
This year's event features two haunted houses; Condess Hall and The Cullers.
The story of Condess Hall begins with the McCrea family murders around the time of the Great Depression. Jack McCrea, driven mad by losing his fortune and his wife's infidelity, killed his five children execution style and strangled his wife. His then committed suicide by jumping into the Intracoastal Waterway strapped to an iron gate. As the story goes, the state then took over the house and turned it into an orphanage. As an orphanage, the tale of a mysterious visitor and her present of a voodoo doll to one of the orphans plagues the Hall to this day.
"Push aside the cobwebs and layers of dust as you make your way up big steel doors and enter a fantasy world of the terrifying paranormal and trapped souls."
In the Cullers house, walk the halls of the The Culler Family Butcher Shop and slaughter-house.
"Step up to the stained red tile floors, brush past the freezer curtains and smell and taste a smoky whiff of charred meat – You are about to encounter a front to back tour of how the Cullers kill and pack their meat – You may even find out where it all comes from..."
Due to the graphic nature of this event, it may be too intense for children under the age of 13.
