Nicolas Cage Arrested After Public Spat With Wife
NEW ORLEANS -(CBSMiami.com) -What began as an argument with his wife allegedly escalated into a messy public spat and ended with an Oscar-winning actor behind bars.
Nicolas Cage was arrested in New Orleans Friday night after a drunken argument with his wife in the French Quarter, police told Reuters.
The 47-year-old actor was handcuffed and booked on suspicion of domestic abuse battery, disturbing the peace and public drunkenness, New Orleans Police said.
The Leaving Las Vegas actor was seen arguing with his wife on a French Quarter street.
Cage "and his wife were standing in front of a residence that he insisted was the property the couple was renting," said New Orleans Police Spokesman Garry Flot in a statement. "She disagreed and Cage grabbed her by the upper arm and pulled her to what he believed was the correct address."
Cage reportedly struck cars before getting into a taxi cab.
An officer who had been flagged down by witnesses caught up with the actor and demanded that he step out of the cab.
The officer observed that "Cage was heavily intoxicated."
It doesn't appear that Cage's wife suffered any visible injuries, authorities said. Nicolas Cage married Alice Kim in 2004. Cage's next court date is scheduled for May 31st.
