NFL To Use Pink Penalty Flags In Sunday's Dolphins-Jets Game
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – When the officials of the Miami Dolphins versus New York Jets game on Sunday throw a penalty flag, it's going to look a little different than it typically does.
The NFL will use pink penalty flags in the Dolphins-Jets game after a suggestion from 11-year-old Dante Cano of New Jersey.
Cano wrote a letter to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell asking for the pink flags to be used to recognize breast cancer awareness month. Commissioner Goodell agreed with the student and will also have Dante and his family on hand at MetLife Stadium to give the officials the pink flags on Sunday.
"Dante had a great idea and I am looking forward to meeting with him on Sunday to put it into action," Commissioner Goodell said. "Sometimes the simplest ideas can be the best. I applaud Dante for sending in this recommendation."
During October, the NFL regularly allows pink gear to be worn by players, coaches, and officials as part of breast cancer awareness month.
