NFL Labor Deal Prospects Improve

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (CBSMiami.com) – Miami Dolphins players, fans, and the team continue to sit and wait as the NFL lockout continues to grind on. But, there continues to be light at the end of the tunnel as negotiators are still meeting to end the four month work stoppage.

Representatives for both the NFL owners and players are in Minneapolis and should resume talks on a new Collective Bargaining Agreement soon. The negotiations will go through Friday, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen.

For the past three weeks, signs have continued to point towards a CBA being agreed to any day, but time is running out to save training camp and the preseason.

The target date to have a deal completed to save training camp, free agency, and the preseason is approximately July 15. But, a deal would need to be agreed upon earlier and submitted for a vote and then deal with undoing the court cases currently sitting before the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith are both expected to join the negotiating session during the current round of talks.

For the Dolphins, a labor deal can't get done soon enough. The Fish need reserves across the offensive line, another running back or two, and a veteran quarterback to challenge Chad Henne.

The Dolphins could target a veteran like Marc Bulger to add depth behind Henne, or could take their chances with a veteran like Vince Young to turn the quarterback race into a true competition.
