NFL & Jets Linebacker Agree On Lockout Danger

MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – While there's no free agency, no player movement, and no trades, that hasn't stopped the NFL owners from getting together in Indianapolis to discuss strategy at the annual spring meeting.

The lockout is in its third month and neither the owners, nor the players are giving an inch in their demands. This comes despite the claims from both sides that they are committed to negotiating and want football to continue.

But at least a few people are starting to get that their actions continue to destroy the very fabric that made the NFL as profitable as it has become in recent years.

New York Jets outside linebacker Bart Scott recently said that both the owners and the players are putting the game at risk in the protracted labor standoff that will likely be settled by the courts.

Monday, NFL general counsel Jeff Pash agreed with Scott's assessment of the situation.

"I really thought he put it very well, that we're getting to the point where we're really putting our fans at risk," Pash told NFL.com. "We're getting to the point where people just can't understand why there's not a deal being made. And I think in many respects the best thing for all of us to do is get out of court, get out of the media, and get together, and I think Bart Scott is right."

It's one of the only times the NFL has agreed with anything a player has said about the lockout. So at least there's progress on that front.

On the legal front, there is not going to be any motion on the case, nor will there be any negotiations until after the lockout stay appeal is heard by the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals on June 3.
