Death Penalty Possible In Hotel Heir Novack Case
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBS4) -- Federal prosecutors in New York say they're considering a new capital charge against a South Florida woman accused of having her millionaire husband and mother-in-law killed.
A Department of Justice spokesman says the possibility was raised Friday as Narcy Novack and brother Cristobal Veliz pleaded not guilty to an updated indictment.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Elliott Jacobson told the judge that the government might add a charge of murder in aid of racketeering. But Jacobson said the attorney general hadn't yet authorized that.
Novack of Fort Lauderdale and Veliz of Brooklyn, N.Y., are accused of hiring others to kill Ben Novack in his New York hotel room and Bernice Novack in her Florida home. Both killings were in 2009.
Ben Novack's father was the builder of the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.
