New Hampshire Considering December Primary
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Every four years, states jockey to be the first in the nation to hold a Presidential primary. But the already jumbled calendar may be about to undergo a seismic shift.
Once Florida moved its primary to January 31, other states quickly began trying to jump ahead of the Sunshine State. South Carolina quickly followed suit to January 21 and Nevada officials move their caucus to January 14.
Then Tuesday, Iowa set January 3, 2012 as the date for its caucus.
But January may not be big enough to fit all of the states' wanting to be first into the calendar.
According to New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner, New Hampshire is considering moving its primary up to December 13th or possibly even as early as December 6th.
The final decision hasn't been made on the exact date for the New Hampshire primary, which is typically the first in the nation during each Presidential cycle.
Secretary of State Gardner said the state has "logistics in place to make either date happen if needed."
Gardner said if Nevada doesn't agree to move its primary to January 17th or later, New Hampshire will plan for the December primaries.
New Hampshire officials haven't released an official date for its primary, yet.
