New Federal Charges For Teacher Accused Of Having Sex With Student
LIGHTHOUSE POINT (CBS4) – A teacher at Zion Lutheran Christian School who was charged by the state after he was found partially naked in the backseat of a car with a 14-year-old student now faces federal charges.
Lighthouse Point Police said Eric Beasley, 24, admitted that he had performed a sex act on the girl and that he was the girl's 9th grade biology teacher at the school. After he was arrested, police said Beasley confessed to multiple sexual encounters with the girl starting in February.
Beasley was charged with nine counts of sexual battery by a custodian with the victim being under eighteen but over twelve. He was released on bail.
Last week he was rearrested on federal charges after a picture of his genitalia and a sexually explicit video, both of which were sent to the victim's cell phone were found on his cell phone.
Beasley is now accused of using his cellphone to entice a minor into engaging in sexual activity. If convicted, he could face 10 years to life in federal prison.
On Monday a federal magistrate ordered that he be held without bond.
Police also said that Beasley engaged in "inappropriate behavior" with the victim during school hours at Zion Lutheran Christian School.
The Headmaster at Zion Lutheran, Philippe Dupont, said he said alerted parents after the initial arrest and planned to keep them updated through email list blasts.
The school dealt with a similar sex scandal back in 2005. Baseball coach Andrew Schafer, 23, was fired and arrested for allegedly having sex with a 15 year old student.
