Police ID Suspect In Murder Of Missing Woman
MIAMI (CBS4) - A man originally dubbed "a person of interest" in the death of a Miami Lakes woman is now considered the prime suspect in her murder.
Miami-Dade Police held a news conference Wednesday in the case of Marisol Ramon and announced her ex-boyfriend, Roque Torres, is wanted for her murder.
"I really don't have words to describe what we are going through. At this point, the only thing we want is to find him," said Stefany Nunez, Ramon's daughter at Wednesday's news conference.
Her son also grieves for his mother. "She means everything to me. Our relationship was the best I ever had. She wasn't just a mom to me because she was also my best friend," said her son Stiven Nunez.
Ramon, 40, was a loving single mother of two who disappeared around 10 p.m. on May 26th at the Royal Oaks Shopping Plaza, just off the Palmetto expressway in Miami Lakes.
Security video showed her Toyota arriving at the mall, followed by Yukon SUV driven by her ex-boyfriend, Roque Torres. Ramon's car never left the parking lot and Torres disappeared the night Marisol did.
About a month later, on June 28th, her skeletal remains were found by a tourist near a service road off US 27 near the Broward/Palm Beach county line.
Roque's SUV was found near Fort Myers. Police say DNA proves blood in the SUV belonged to her and that she had been shot to death. Investigators are convinced her killer, a car salesman and gambler, is still alive. The search is national and international.
"He would frequently travel to areas of Costa Rica and Nicaragua, Managua and participate in gambling activities there," said Miami-Dade Police Det. Thomas Romagni.
Police detectives are convinced that someone knows where Roque Torres is. As police continue to search for him, Ramon's family continues to mourn.
"The hardest part is not being able to see her, knowing I'm never going to see her again and knowing he hasn't paid for what he did yet," said her son.
Police believe the accused killer traveled out of the country and back at least once since the murder. They also say they're convinced he has communicated with someone here in South Florida since the murder as well.
