New Details In Millionaire's Disappearance
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBS4 Miami) – New details have been uncovered in the search for a millionaire who went missing off Ft. Lauderdale's coast back in June.
Guma Aguiar disappeared just hours after he was seen heading out to sea in his boat.
Notes from the U.S. Coast Guard's investigation show that life jackets and religious texts were found aboard the Aguiar, according to the Sun Sentinel which obtained the documents under the Freedom of Information Act.
The report also indicated Aguiar had left his watch and wedding ring at home.
Commander Darren Caprara told the paper the notes were compiled by multiple officers involved in the 48-hour air-and-sea search for Aguiar. Nothing in them, according to the Coast Guard, proves a planned suicide.
Ft. Lauderdale police said that after analyzing the data from the GPS in Aguiar's boat, detectives found no evidence to suggest the boat had ever come to a complete stop. Police also found no blood on the boat and no evidence of foul play.
The last time that Aguiar was last seen was caught on a surveillance video. The video shows him walking around outside his Rio Vista mansion, and then getting onto his small fishing boat alone.
Some people tend to think that Aguiar died in rough seas, was killed, or faked his own death.
Aguiar is still missing; he leaves behind his wife, Jamie Aguiar, and mother, Ellen Aguiar, who went to court in July to see who should ultimately control Aguiar's estate valued at $100 million dollars.
