Neighbors 4 Neighbors
(CBS4) - Neighbors 4 Neighbors became a hallmark of the recovery efforts following Hurricane Andrew and 19 years later it remains a great example of how caring volunteers can provide help to people in need in our own community.
Now, local governments in South Florida are training people to do even more. The idea is to see that each community is better prepared for disasters by recruiting and training groups of neighborhood volunteers.
These groups of trained volunteers are called CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams). They will be available immediately after a storm to provide many kinds of emergency assistance to disaster victims in their neighborhoods.
CERT training for community groups is usually scheduled on weekends or in the evening. If you would like to volunteer with or organize a CERT group, contact your county Emergency Management office or call Neighbors 4 Neighbors.
Neighbors 4 Neighbors is available for this or any other hurricane question at (305) 597-4404 Monday through Friday, 11:30am to 11:30pm.
During a hurricane watch or warning, Neighbors 4 Neighbors will have a phone-bank open throughout the emergency to answer your storm-related questions. In the aftermath of a storm, Neighbors 4 Neighbors will connect people in need with those who can help.
