Nearly 30 Same-Sex Couples Get Married At Mass Ceremony

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Dozens of same-sex couples gathered at a South Florida church on Saturday morning to get married while others renewed their vows.
Twenty-eight couples were at Unity on the Bay in Miami which was offering a free mass marriage ceremony in celebration of the lifting of the ban on marriages for same-sex couples in Florida.

The ceremony comes less than week after the ban was lifted.

Around the state, same-sex couples exchanged vows Tuesday, starting with a midnight marriage in Monroe County and early morning mass weddings in Broward.
As of Tuesday evening, nearly 1,000 gay and lesbian couples were issued marriage licenses in Florida's 10 most-populous counties.

Following the lift of the ban,same-sex spouses of state employees became eligible for state coverage for health insurance and retirement benefits.
