NCAA Enforcement Review Complete, Report Due Next Week
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The NCAA's investigation into Miami is one step closer to being completed. The collegiate governing body announced Wednesday the external enforcement review it assigned to Kenneth Wainstein has been completed and will be published by next Friday.
The external enforcement review was prompted after the NCAA learned it had gathered improper information in the investigation into the University of Miami and ties to Nevin Shapiro. The information gathered came through help from Shapiro's attorney Maria Elena Perez.
Perez has denied any wrongdoing with regards to the NCAA investigation. The NCAA delayed the releasing of a notice of allegations against any party involved with the Shapiro investigation until after the external review was completed.
The external investigation into the NCAA's actions was supposed to take anywhere from 10-14 days and immediately upon the completion of it and the report, the NCAA was planning to release the notice of allegations against coaches and the school's involved in the Shapiro scandal.
NCAA President Emmert said the notice of allegations would still move forward, but any evidence gathered against UM through improper methods would be thrown out. Emmert said it's his understanding there's still plenty of evidence against UM even without the material set to be thrown out.
