Nativity Scene To Make Its Way To State Capitol
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — A nativity scene will be displayed at Florida's Capitol throughout the holiday season.
A private group called the Florida Nativity Scene Committee with the help of law firm Thomas More Society paid for the scene and will set it up in Tallahassee on Tuesday.
The scene will first portray the birth of Jesus and later on another group, Reclaim Christ for Christmas, will add to the display the Three Wise Men said to have delivered gifts to the baby Jesus.
Although the Constitution requires state to be separate from church, the nativity scene will be allowed because the display will be privately funded.
According to the American Civil Liberties Union of Florida executive director Howard Simon, the state has opened itself for anyone to express their messages if they are privately paid for.
