Nationals Send Harper To AAA
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One of the Miami Marlins top NL East rivals will not have one of their top recent draft picks on the roster to start the regular season.
According to Comcast Sportsnet Washington, Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper has been sent down to the Nationals AAA-affiliate Syracuse Chiefs.
Harper will start the regular season in center field for the Chiefs. So far in spring ball, Harper had been 8-28 with zero home runs, two walks, and 11 strikeouts. He also missed time due to a calf injury.
Harper's debut with the Nationals has been long-anticipated as the team wants to make him and fellow number one overall pick, pitcher Stephen Strasburg.
Strasburg is coming back from Tommy John surgery, but is said to be nearing 100 percent for the Nationals. Harper, 19, hasn't played at the Major League level yet, but should be nearing his debut as soon as this season.
