N Miami Man Sentenced In Holy Cross Hospital ID Theft Scam
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - A North Miami man has been sentenced to more than 14 years in prison for his part in a ring which stole patient information at Holy Cross Hospital in Ft. Lauderdale.
In exchange for the sentence, to be followed by three years of probation, 27-year old Jimmy Lee Theodore pleaded guilty to wire fraud, unauthorized use of a debit card and aggravated identity theft.
Theodore was also ordered to pay to $631 thousand in restitution.
According to federal prosecutors Theodore and Albert Andrulonis used co-defendant Mildred Alexis to recruit co-defendant Natasha Orr, an emergency room employee at Holy Cross Hospital, to steal patients' personal information from emergency room records.
Alexis is also accused of recruiting Raushanah Bowleg, who worked for a doctor in Aventura, to steal similar patient information. Alexis then reportedly sold the stolen patient information to Andrulonis.
Andrulonis and Theodore then used the stolen information to get online access to the cards' accounts as well as cash withdrawals and buy money orders through ATM machines.
Prosecutors said Theodore was ringleader of the operation which affected at least 250 people.
Andrulonis, 27, was sentenced to 11 years in prison, three years of probation and ordered to pay $300 thousand in restitution.
Orr was sentenced to two years in prison and three years of probation. Alexis was sentenced to a little more than three years in prison and three years of probation.
Bowleg, who pled guilty to wrongful disclosure of individually identifiable health information in May, will be sentenced on August 15th, 2011.
