MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Two men who led police in a chase from Miami Beach to the City of Miami on Monday afternoon were scheduled to see a judge on Tuesday.
The chase started at around 5 p.m. as Miami-Dade police pursued a white BMW through the streets of Miami Beach.
The suspect's BMW got on the MacArthur Causeway and then State Road 836 before getting off the highway in Miami.
It was finally stopped at the intersection of Northwest 27th Avenue and 20th Street.
There were four people inside the vehicle, two of them are wanted for murder, Brandon Lee and Krishon Hedge.
Lee and Hedge both made their first appearances in bond court - both are being held on a warrant out of New York City.
The pair is accused of a murder in Queens.
Investigators say the two were in a car that rear-ended another, that they and two others wore masks, shot the other driver and took off in his car.
US Marshalls have been on the hunt for them.
"They are high-level gang members in New York," said Assistant Chief Manny Puri from the US Marshalls office. "These are two violent individuals that we were lucky to take off the street with no further harm being done and no one was injured in the chase."
Reshawn Welch's company rented the pair the BWM. He was stunned when he realized it was his company's car leading police on that rush hour pursuit.
"They said they were looking for a car for the week," recalled Welch. "We thought they just came down from New York and they was coming down to have some fun in the sun in Miami Beach just like everybody else, escaping the cool weather."
It looks like the pair has been busy this month, both in New York and South Florida, and they appear to have expensive taste.
We've pieced together a timeline of their movement.
October 1st was the aforementioned murder in Queens. On Oct. 7, police believe Hedge was driving a Lamborghini when it rear-ended an off-duty firefighter in Miami.
Investigators say the pair fled when a Mercedes picked them up.
On Oct. 16, in the exclusive design district, the car rental company owner said he leased them the Beamer, his representatives meeting up with them outside those pricey stores and signing the paperwork.
Then Monday they were nabbed after that pursuit, both ending up behind bars.
One of them is fighting extradition back to New York.
"So tell me what you want to do?" the Judge asked. "Do you want to waive it or do you want to contest it?"
"I'm going to contest it," Lee said.
Both men are being held with no bond.
