Murder Suspect's Body Found Near Coral Springs School
CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – The manhunt for a Port St. Lucie murder suspect in Coral Springs has come to an end.
Coral Springs police spokesman Lt. Joe McHugh said the body found early Monday morning just east of Coral Springs High School in the 7200 block of Sample Road was that of Mikhail Sergatiouk, who was wanted for first-degree murder in the death of Alexander Gorbach, 43.
A double-barrel shotgun was found under the body and a bike was also found in the wooded area near the body. The medical examiner said Sergatiouk died of a shotgun wound to the head.
Neighbors were distraught saying Gorbach was a good father and family man.
Gorbach was found Saturday night lying on the kitchen floor of his residence with shotgun wound to his upper torso. Police said after a search of Sergatiouk's home, they found evidence which connected him to the murder.
Sunday evening Coral Springs police said Sergatiouk was spotted running out of the back of a home in the 8700 block of Forest Hills Boulevard. A perimeter was set up and nearly two dozen officers with K9s conducted a block by block search as a Broward Sheriff's helicopter scanned the area from the sky.
"We are not going to stop looking for the individual at this point until we do identify this as the homicide suspect out of Port St. Lucie," Lt. McHugh said.
Police said they were able to trace Sergatiouk to Coral Springs after getting a call from his son.
Coral Springs Police said Sergatiouk and Gorbach were one-time business partners, but no word yet on how/why the relationship may have gone sour.
The body was removed around noon and the area of W. Sample Road between State Road 7 and Wiles Road was then reopened.
