2 Dead, 1 Injured In SW Miami-Dade Shooting

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade police are investigating a shooting where two people died and another was wounded.
The shooting happened in the area of 200 Street and SW 198 Avenue at around 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
Chopper4 spotted a man walking through farm fields.
What we didn't know at the time, he had just ditched his car after police said he shot three people – killing two of them.
"One of our canine officers, that was responding to the area, saw a vehicle that matched the description of the subject," explained Miami-Dade Det. Alvaro Zabaleta. "When he made a U-turn to attempt to stop that vehicle, that's when the subject pulled over and fled on foot in that area."
Nearly 45 minutes after the shooting, police caught up with the man, who wanted to turn himself in.
"You can clearly see how he was walking backwards, he kneeled down," Zabaleta said. "Raising his hands, you see that he drop something, which was the cellphone. And this was all because he was receiving specific instructions on the other line from an officer here on the scene."
Neighbors were stunned at the commotion.
"It's very quiet nursery area you know just quiet," said Wescott Trinadad.
The area is made up of acres upon acres of farmland and nurseries.
It makes for a very large crime scene for police, who have to comb the area – ensuring no evidence is left behind.
As the night went on, family began to arrive.
Police questioned them, trying to get to the bottom of so many unanswered questions. Questions such as the relationship of the four men or what led up to the shooting.
But police are sure of one thing.
"It's way too soon to be able to have any type of motive," Zabaleta said. "The good thing is we do feel confident that this is the person responsible for the shooting."
It's news that put at least one neighbor at ease.
"When you live alone, as a woman you want to make sure that they apprehended the person that did it and that you're safe," Trinadad said.
