Multiple People Shot, 1 Dead In Brownsville Neighborhood
MIAMI (CBS4) - Police say they're looking for a man with an assault rifle who shot three people Wednesday afternoon in a Northwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.
Miami-Dade Police units responded to the scene at 22nd Avenue NW 52nd Street about 5:20 p.m and found one person dead and two others injured.
Detective Roy Rutland said an assault weapon was used in the drive-by shooting. He said, "The street is just littered with AK-47 rounds right now, so we know these men were shot with at least an AK-47-type weapon. We know the kind of damage that does to people."
Rutland said all the victims were outside at the time of the shooting, which is not believed to be a random act. Two victims were in stable condition and one died at the scene, but was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to police.
Neighbors heard the gunshots and came outside to see what happened. "It was a lot of gunshots - about 10 to 14 gunshots," said Rusuque Isaac who lives nearby.
From Chopper 4, several people were seen being treated by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel. Police also went into a vacant house after they say they saw a trail of blood and worried someone might be hurt inside, but they say no one was inside the home when they got in.
"Because it's so early in the investigation we don't have a motive however we did recover some firearms on the scene," said Rutland.
Police have not released the identities of any of the victims.
Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
