Source: Boyfriend Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Mother
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A 26-year-old Miami-Dade man is charged with shooting his girlfriend multiple times and killing her because he believed she was having an affair with someone who she worked with, according to a police source.
Twenty-eight-year-old Anshamere Cephus was shot outside the HAC, the Homeless Assistance Center in Miami early Wednesday.
A source told CBS4's Jim DeFede that the suspect,Victor Pino, believed that Cephus was having an affair with someone who worked at the HAC and confronted her and took her to the facility in order to confront the man who he believed she was having an affair with.
The source said Pino tried to talk his way into the building but was not allowed to enter. That's when he shot Cephus, the source said, adding he turned himself in to Miami Police headquarters and was charged with 2nd degree murder.
Earlier in the day, a half-dozen Miami-Dade Police units were called to the North Miami home where Cephus' mother and father live. A source told CBS4's Peter D'Oench that the same boyfriend had made a threat that he was going to come to the home and kill someone.
Undercover officers stayed at the home and watched it to make sure the boyfriend did not show up. They left when he surrendered.
Cephus's father told D'Oench that he worked for the Miami-Dade Police Department. While he is grieving, he is also working with DCF to make sure her four children are OK.
Cephus was gunned down just steps away from her SUV early Wednesday morning.
Anshamere Cephus, known to friends and co-workers as "Shay," worked mostly recently at the Camillus House as a temp worker in the kitchen. CBS4 Natalia Zea was told that job ended Friday. She was shot to death in front of the nearby Homeless Assistance Center where a relative of hers works.
"I heard sounds last night, gunshots," said "Ren" who was asleep inside the Homeless Assistance Center. "I get up and I saw the blood in the streets and I'm like 'wow, this is too close for comfort'."
"It was like boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom, non stop, like one behind the other one. It wouldn't stop," said Ricardo Deleon.
Deleon said after the gunfire ended he saw a man wearing a dark hoodie and dark jeans running down the street.
"I saw somebody running away from I guess what was a dead body lying in the street right now, and passed by a whole bunch of security guards with a gun," said Deleon.
Police aren't saying what motivated him to kill the woman who a neighbor, Mayra Dones, described as a good mother.
"I'm in shock right now, I never imagined something like that would happen to her. For me she's a cool person, she always takes care of her kids, she's working. I'm in shock," said Dones.
Dones said Cephus had four children. Three were from a previous relationship and a young daughter with her current boyfriend. She said they had loud arguments in the past, but not recently.
Police came for the children and took them out of the apartment.
The state's Department of Children and Families said it has a prior history with the family and has opened an investigation into this incident. A friend says Cephus's children are staying with their grandmother for the time being.
