Most Area Restaurant Closures This Summer Due To Roaches
SOUTH FLORIDA (CBSMiami) — Roaches did it.
Since July, most of the South Florida restaurants that were closed temporarily by state inspectors had roach problems, according to the Florida Division of Hotels and Restaurants.
The Business Journal found 36 closures, of which 25 involved roaches. In fact, a Miami shopping center had three restaurants that were closed because of roaches.
The next most common condition was unlicensed activity, which was an issue at five restaurants. Sewage leaks or rodents were issues at three restaurants each. One restaurant had both a rodent and a roach problem, state inspectors found.
Many of the restaurants involved were neighborhood operations, but two were upscale restaurants on Brickell Avenue in Miami and Ponce de Leon Boulevard in Coral Gables.
