Morris Garners ACC Player Of The Week Honor
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – University of Miami quarterback Stephen Morris was selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference's offensive back player of the week thanks to his phenomenal game against North Carolina State last Saturday.
Morris threw for a UM and ACC record 566 yards on 26-49 passes to help lead the Canes to a 44-37 comeback win against NC State. Morris averaged 21.8 yards per completion against the Wolfpack and he saved his best pass for last.
With UM trailing the Wolfpack and just 19 seconds remaining in the game, Morris scrambled and found Phillip Dorsett open and uncorked a 62-yard touchdown pass to secure the victory.
In the last two games, Morris has thrown for 1,002 yards and UM has needed it because the Canes defense has given up more than 1,000 yards in the last two games as well.
On the season, Morris has thrown for 1,635 yards, nine touchdowns, and four interceptions.
In a normal week, Morris' performance might be good enough to lead the nation in passing. But Morris' stellar performance was eclipsed by West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith who was 45-51 for 656 yards, eight touchdowns and no interceptions against Baylor.
Smith has yet to throw an interception this season and has thrown for 1,728 yards in 2012.
