More Stores Open On Thanksgiving Day
MIAMI (CBS4) - Thanksgiving used to be a day of family, feasting and football but now, you can add shopping to the list. On a day when most stores would be closed and only reopen for the famous Black Friday sales, now big-box retailers are trying to get a jump start on the holiday shopping season by opening on Thanksgiving Day.
A growing number of major retail chains, from Wal-Mart to Kmart to Sears are opening their doors on Thanksgiving Day.
For Sears, it's a history making move. The company has never opened on Thanksgiving in its 124-year history. Its hours on Thanksgiving Day are 7:00 a.m. to noon. Also for the first time, Toys R Us stores nationwide will open at 10:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving.
Holiday sales were flat last year. While the National Retail Federation forecasts a 2.3% rise this year to $447 billion, 81% of consumers the trade group surveyed said they will spend less this holiday because of the economy. So retailers are going all-out this Thanksgiving, "to get people away from the dessert table," says Kathy Grannis, an NRF spokeswoman.

Wal-Mart: Most stores will be open 24 hours on Thanksgiving and Black Friday.
Kmart: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving, 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Black Friday.
The Gap: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thanksgiving, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.
Banana Republic: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thanksgiving, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Black Friday.
Old Navy: noon to 7 p.m. on Thanksgiving, 3 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Black Friday.
Toys "R" Us: 12 a.m. on Thanksgiving night to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.
Bath & Body Works: 100 stores are open from 12 a.m. on Thanksgiving night to 11 p.m. on Black Friday. The remaining stores are open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Black Friday.
Victoria's Secret: 10 stores are open from 12 a.m. on Thanksgiving night to 10 p.m. on Black Friday. The remaining stores are open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday.

J. C. Penney: 4 a.m. to 11 p.m. Doorbuster specials last from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. Special instant-money coupons--available online at jcp.com and in the sales circular--can be used Friday from 3 to 11 p.m.
