Model Of Shuttle Moved Out Of Space Center For Real Deal
CAPE CANAVERAL (CBSMiami/AP) – A full-scale model of a space shuttle, which has thrilled visitors to the Kennedy Space Center Complex for nearly two decades, has been moved out of the complex to make room for a new exhibit which will feature a real space shuttle.
NASA crews slowly took the model on Sunday to the Launch Complex 39 turn basin, about four miles away, where it will remain until its taken by barge in several months to Texas for display at Space Center Houston.
A NASA report said the move will help clear the way for the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex to begin building a new facility next year. The $100 million exhibit will house retired shuttle Atlantis, whose 33 missions included the 135th and last by a shuttle in July.
