Model Charged In Hit And Run Death Of UM Student
CORAL GABLES (CBS4) -A Miami woman has been charged with the hit and run accident that killed University of Miami student Jared Paul Jones last month.
Valentina Andrews Hubsch, 45, was arrested by Coral Gables Police Tuesday and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
Jones, 21, was hit as he walked along the 4500 block of Red Road on November 13. He died ten days later at Jackson Memorial Hospital, never awakening from a coma.
Police say Hubsch has been cooperating with them since the beginning of the investigation. All the while the Jones family pleaded to local media cameras for the driver to come forward.
Police collected DNA samples from the silver Hyundai Hubsch was driving that night to build their case.
Hubsch's Attorney Albert Levin confirmed to CBS4's Natalia Zea that his client was behind the wheel of the car that hit Jones, but he says he is sure that once the facts are out, his client would be cleared.
"This was obviously a very horrible tragedy, but it was an unavoidable tragedy," said Levin. "She's a mother, she's a model, she's lived in this community all of her life, she's a really good person, she's a sweet person."
